Lily James is set to test her singing talent in Universal’s upcoming movie musical sequel Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!

Baby Driver and Cinderella star Lily James has just been cast in the upcoming Mamma Mia sequel, according to THR. James will play the role of “Young Donna” to Meryl Streep’s present-day Donna as the film goes back and forth in time to show how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! reunites producers of the original film, Littlestar’s Judy Craymer and Playtone’s Gary Goetzman. Craymer was also the creator and producer of the smash-hit stage musical. Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) has written and will direct what is reportedly a sequel and prequel to the original, featuring return of Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Christine Baranski and Colin Firth, plus actors to play the Streep, Skarsgård, Brosnan and Firth characters in their younger days. Like the original, which adapted the stage hit for its own $609 million worldwide success at the box office (and more on the home entertainment level), the new one will again use Abba's music (both classic cuts and tracks that didn't find their way into the first film), and features the participation of musical creator Judy Craymer.

Starting her career in British film and television in 2010, James’ breakthrough role, of course, came in 2012 with her recurring part as Lady Rose MacClare in the critically acclaimed TV series Downton Abbey. Her first big exposure on the big screen, however, came in the titular role of Disney’s live-action version of Cinderella, which earned more than $201 million domestically and $342 million internationally for a robust global take of $543 million. Following her turn in the box office flatliner Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, James recently aligned herself with another winner in director Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! will hit theaters on July 20, 2018.
